Parish Outreach

The main outreach work of our Parish is done to support:

Beacon House – The Mission of Beacon House is to work in a caring and compassionate manner to provide food, clothing and programs for those in the community that we can help. St. John the Evangelist is one of 18 churches in the catchment area of Beacon House and has a representative to represent the Church on the Board of Directors of Beacon House Interfaith Society. The heart of Beacon House lies in the dedicated volunteers. Many people from St. John’s volunteer their time at Beacon House. Food is collected regularly throughout the year. Donations are made to the Beacon House Christmas Turkey Tree program.

  • Bryony House – During the year, St. John’s reaches out to Bryony House through donations of personal products, mittens, hats and scarves.

Mission to Seafarers – St. John’s prepares Christmas Boxes for the mission to give to Seamen who visit the Halifax Port during the Christmas season. The Mothers’ Union also participates in the Mission Luncheon Program.

Primates World Relief and Development Fund – PWRDF is the Canadian Anglican response for emergency relief, refugees, development and justice. Born of Canadian tragedy 50 years ago with the Springhill Mine Disaster, it is now a source of love and hope around the world. PWRDF supports projects at home in Canada as well as overseas. Donations are made using blue envelopes in Church envelope box and distributed PWRDF boxes. Monthly newsletter available here.
