About Our Parish:

St. John the Evangelist is a vibrant, welcoming, and affirming Anglican parish that has been a spiritual home in Middle Sackville since 1805. We are a community dedicated to nurturing body, mind, and spirit through thoughtful worship, fellowship, and active community service. We seek a part-time Music Director who will lead our musical ministry, fostering a collaborative environment that deepens our liturgical experience.

Responsibilities:

• Liturgical Music Leadership: Provide piano/keyboard accompaniment and lead the music for our primary Sunday service (10:30 a.m., Sept. to June & 9:30 a.m. during the summer schedule).

• Youth & Children’s Ministry: Collaborating on occasion with our Godly Play youth program during the worship service, introducing music, songs, or creative elements that support the children’s engagement and spiritual journey.

• Weddings & Funerals: Available to provide musical accompaniment for parish weddings and funerals as they arise throughout the year.

• Choir Direction: Conduct and support our parish choir, leading regular weekly rehearsals to prepare and vocally support congregational singing.

• Special Services: Provide music for major feasts and holy days throughout the liturgical year (including Christmas Eve/Day, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and Easter).

• Collaborative Planning: Work closely with the clergy team and worship committee to plan hymns and service music to ensure the hymn selections align with the liturgical season.

Qualifications:

• High proficiency in piano and electronic keyboard.

• A strong understanding of, or familiarity with, Anglican liturgical traditions and service structures.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with a heart for conducting and encouraging volunteer musicians, including a gentle, engaging approach when working with children and youth.

• Reliable, organized, and committed to building community through music.

Position Details:

• Hours: Part-time, approximately [e.g., 8–10 hours per week].

• Compensation: Remuneration is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Weddings and funerals are required and are compensated separately via an additional per-service honorarium.

• Requirements: A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector check will be required prior to hiring, in alignment with diocesan safe Church policies.
